Top Ten Tuesday: Supporting Characters That Need Their Own Book!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they post a new topic that the participants come up with a top ten list for.

This week's topic is: (Minor) Characters that deserve their own book! This one is gonna be eeeeasy !

Kenji from Shatter Me - He was a ray of sunshine in that series! Some of my favourite quotes are from him and although he doesn't have the graceful words of some of the other characters I definitely can laugh when he's speaking. He deserves a whole series of books.

Myrnin from The Morganville Vampires - He's such a complex character. He has a whole hoard of sides and I never know which one I'm going to be reading about. I'd love to hear internal thoughts rather than what Claire sees. I am constantly wondering what he's thinking when his insanity lapses. I'm on book 5 in this series and I think he's starting to become more lucid but he still interests me. Also, the way he is with Claire is the best kind of strange. He sometimes treats her like a china doll and other times he is very cruel with his words but you can tell he cares for her so much... Would love to read a whole book about him, from his point of view of course!

Luke and Twila from Compulsion - I've actually spoken to the author about this and she agreed! They were very important to the story but in an extremely distant way. The reason I'd like for them to have their own book is because I'd love to learn more about their story - how they came together and what they thought in those last moments. It's a very beautiful story but incredibly tragic at the same time. Very Romeo and Juliet in the star-crossed lovers sense. MAKE THIS HAPPEN, MARTINA. *Bats eyelashes* Please.

Toraf from The Syrena Legacy - I'm sure if you've read this series you'll agree. He was an adorably stupid character - kind of like Kenji - he brought happiness and sass in times of angst.

Luc from The Lux Series - Just because of what he was. I'm entirely interested in finding out more about his species. I'm purposely being vague because OH MY GOD it is hard to talk about any aspect of the Lux series without giving spoilers. Everything is connected and yeah it was hard to review the books without giving spoilers... But hey, awesome series.

Roth from The Dark Elements - In the second book he has done a whole 180 with his feelings (or so it seems) and I would love to be in his head. I know he's putting up a front but it's so hard to know when we only have Layla's perspective which consists of a lot of self pity and 'but it meant something'. #TeamRoth or #TeamZayne? #TeamBambi.

"The Other Pet" from Perfected - Her name escapes me but I know it's mentioned because I remember Ruby thinks she can call the replacement pet by the old pet's name. Oh and the 'pets' are people. Read the book it's awesome and the ending almost killed me. Very nearly almost. But I would love to hear this other pet's story - what happened to her before and after she was sent back to the Kennels?

Clary's Mom from The Mortal Instruments - When Valentine takes her we don't really know much of what happens to her. Does he try to convince her he still loves her? Does he lock her away until Clary inevitably shows up? I don't think we ever found out much - just what Clary sees when she enters Valentine's hideout. She's a pretty mundane (hahahaha, pun and irony intended) character to want a whole book for but I would like to hear her thoughts through the first and second books. A novella sounds better.

Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss - Because I always wonder what the guy is thinking. We usually only get to hear the girl's side and, if we're lucky, get one bonus scene from the POV of the guy... I WANT A WHOLE BOOK!!

What about you guys? Who do you think deserves a whole book for themselves? :)

Top Ten Tuesday: Who Would Be Sitting At My Lunch Table?

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every week they post a new topic that the participants come up with a top ten list for.

This week's topic is: Top ten characters that would have sat at my lunch table in high school.

1. Anna from Anna and the French Kiss. We definitely would be sitting at the same table. After reading that book (and currently re-reading it) I am adamant that we are alike and would have been fast friends. She's sweet, humble and may not make the best choices but she does things out of the kindness of her heart. Plus she definitely made me laugh in the book!

2. Daemon from the Lux  series. We'd get along for the one simple reason; we have the same sense of humor. We're both fluent in sarcasm... and sometimes we pass that thin line between being sarcastic and being an asshole. Plus, ya know, he's an alien. Not that I relate to that at all but he'd have some kickass stories so I'd make him join me.

3. Isabelle from The Mortal Instruments  series. My lunch table at school was pretty much all girls (guys tended to sit on a wall all lunch break *rolls eyes*) and all of us were different. I mean we had some of the same interests but we all had different personalities and experiences etcetc. I definitely think Isabelle would be welcome at our table! Her need-no-man attitude is perfect and something I wish every girl had. We all need a little bit of Isabelle Lightwood's personality plus she'd also have amazing stories with her being a Shadowhunter and all.

4. Emma from The Syrena Legacy books. I'd want her at my table for the same reasons as I stated above; Emma never asked Galen to fight for her and she was strong and brave and totally awesome. She's also a great friend and totally loyal, me and her would get along easily.

5. Travis from Beautiful Disaster. Maybe not for high school because he's a little older than that if I remember correctly but he'd definitely spice up the atmosphere huh? Plus he's bad-boy-hot so... win-win.

6. Blair from the Gossip Girl  series. I mean I'd love to summer in the Hamptons plus she's Queen B! I hated her in the beginning but she definitely grew on me and I think we'd get along very well.

7. Claire from The Morganville Vampires  series. I love reading about her in those books because she seems so like me in ways I can't properly explain. She's extremely loyal and I value that in any friendship plus we kinda like the same things... like drinking teeth-rotting amounts of diet coke.

8. Stiles from Teen Wolf. (Yes it's actually a book!) I just love Stiles, have since the first season. He's awkward and adorable and super attractive (in the last couple of seasons especially) and I think we would get along easy-peasy. I laugh at all his supposedly awful jokes and attempts to lighten the mood, I think he'd make the entire table a happier environment!

9. Lydia from Teen Wolf. (Again) Lydia is just an awesome person. That's all the explanation you need really.

10. Patch from the Hush Hush  series. Honestly? I just picked him because he's a hot fallen angel (in the first book) and... well that's it. I'd make  him sit with us. I think he'd get along with Travis really well for some reason.

Book Review: Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

Let me start off this review by thanking the person who made me read this; Nicole from booksandstarlight because before she mentioned how good it was, I wasn't going to read it at all. Partially because I couldn't stand any more Lux series feels and partly because Jennifer Armentrout said it was a stand-alone novel about an Arum which didn't need to be read in order to understand the main books. After reading Obsession, I think it's very important to read it and I'll explain why in this review.

Before reading Obsession, I believed that Luxen were good, Arum were bad. It was as simple as that but as I made my way through this book I understood more about the entire reasoning behind why the two alien sides hate each other. Through time on earth, the lines have blurred between these two groups. I was completely surprised to discover how the war began and who the bad guys really are here yet for reasons made up by the government; Luxen are obviously favored, we know that from the other books in the series. What this novel does is show us an entirely new perspective. I definitely understand a lot more now and am a little more sympathetic towards the opposing side; the Arum.

Whilst reading this book I came to discover that not all Arum are bad, some are actually very good. Take Hunter's brother... well the ones he claims anyways, he's kept out of trouble and doesn't try to wreak havoc on innocent people. Actually, Hunter's family is the perfect way to explain how the Arum are; Lore, one of the brothers, is a wonderful person. He stays off the radar and likes it that way but he'd do anything for Hunter. Then there's Sin, aptly named, and the complete stereotype we had of the Arum in books 1, 2 and 3 of the Lux series. Cold, cruel, selfish and enjoy bringing people and Luxen pain. As I said, this family is the perfect way to explain how Arum really are, there are good ones and there are downright awful ones. We also find out that not all Luxen are sunshine and rainbows, some can be just as cruel and unforgiving as the worst Arums.

Without reading this I'd still think the Arum were the ultimate bad guys here. It shows a completely new side to them and how they live, even why they kill and feed from the Luxen. It's safe to say that I learnt a helluva lot from Obsession and not only about the Arum but it also helps me understand the circumstances behind everything that happens in Origin too. Especially the ending but I wont elaborate because I'm trying (painfully) to keep this spoiler-free. Basically, without reading this book I wouldn't fully understand the ending of Origin and why what happened, happens. Does that make sense? Maybe.

I loved the characters! Serena was lovely yet strong-willed and incredibly brave. She took the whole alien thing as if someone just told her that humans breath and although that worried me at the start, I understood at the end. She kind of keeps all the hysteria in until the dam breaks and then we see all of those emotions spill out. It was also really cool that Hunter could read auras because it gave us a sense of how Serena felt when we weren't reading her POV. She held her own, carried herself well and didn't lose hope even when she thinks it's the end. Loyalty turned out to be her strongest trait! She didn't cower from Hunter even at the beginning, she didn't let him intimidate her which I loved her for. I loved watching her fall for Hunter and vise versa, it was really beautiful and whenever she asked to see him in his true form even though it scared her a little, she was amazed rather than disgusted. It was strange to see Hunter so conscious about being in his true form too, how he thought she'd cower and hide. She always believed he was a good person inside and she was right.
Hunter was fab. I probably wanted him as much as Serena did to be honest... I was a mess when he said those three little words. I also loved his brothers, both were complete opposites of each other but they added a little something to the story - it was fun to see how Hunter interacted with them both so differently. One with pride and relaxed happiness and the other with caution and barely controlled anger.

If you've read this book, do you think it was beneficial to read it? Did it help you understand in the same way it did me?
