"Waiting On" Wednesday is a
weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming
releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week, my most anticipated release is:
The Rule of Mirrors (The Vault of Dreamers #2) by Caragh M. O'Brien Anticipated Release Date: February 16th, 2016
The fast-paced,
psychologically thrilling sequel to The Vault of Dreamers follows Rosie
after her consciousness has been split in two. The entire country was
watching when Rosie Sinclair was expelled from Forge, the prestigious
arts school that doubles as a reality TV show. But few know how Dean
Berg is mining students' dreams in laboratories deep below the school.
And no one, least of all the Dean himself, knows that when Rosie's
dreams were seeded into the mind of another patient, Rosie's
consciousness woke up in that body--a girl far from Forge, a girl with a
completely different life from Rosie, a girl who is pregnant. Told
from alternating points of view between Rosie as she makes sense of her
new identity and the shattered subconscious that still exists in her old
body, The Rule of Mirrors will keep readers on the edge of their seats
and leave them hungry for more.
Caragh M. O’Brien is the author of the BIRTHMARKED trilogy and THE
VAULT OF DREAMERS, both from Macmillan/Roaring Brook Press. Born in St.
Paul, Minnesota, Ms. O’Brien was educated at Williams College and earned
her MA from Johns Hopkins University. She recently resigned from
teaching high school English in order to write young adult novels.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Every week they post a new topic that the participants come up with a
top ten list for.
This week topic is:
Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds
Matilda in Matilda
Cath in Fangirl
Klaus in A Series of Unfortunate Events
Hermione in the Harry Potter series
Mo and Meggie in Inkheart
Jo in Little Women
Liesel in The Book Thief
'Fanboy' in The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl
Charlie in The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Ignore the fact that I skimped out on the last book. It was difficult to produce a list. I'm surprised that there are so few characters that I know are book nerds in Tenn Fiction. >:

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most.
Light or darkness.
Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers.
Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend.
To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

“Armentrout is a major talent…I just can’t stop reading!”
--New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter
“Armentrout works her magic with swoon-worthy guys and a twist you never see coming.”
--#1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines on White Hot Kiss
Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie,
look…look at your hand.”
Look at my hand? Why in the world
would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?
“Do it,” he said quietly and too
gently.
The dread exploded in my gut like
buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird
marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed
inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails
had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut
through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.
“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my
other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I
had shifted.
Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”
“What about my wings?” I almost
screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The
tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand
jerked back. “What…”
Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in
size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to
look in it.”
I met Roth’s gaze for a second
before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom
had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.
I looked normal, like I did before
I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade
of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a
mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a
colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting
out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what
caught my attention and held it.
It was my wings.
They were large, not as massive as
Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now
they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny
feathers.
Feathers.
“Oh my God,” I whispered at my
reflection. “I have feathers.”
“Those are definitely feathered
wings,” Roth commented.
I whipped around, knocking over a
lamp with my feathered right wing. “I
have feathers on my wings!”
Roth cocked his head to the side.
“Yeah, you do.”
He was absolutely no help, so I
turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”
Zayne shook his head slowly. “I
don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”
“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a
dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”
And don’t miss the first titles in the Dark Elements Series!

The Crimson Crown (Seven Realms #4) by Cinda Williams Chima Published Date: October 23rd, 2012 Format: Library Copy
A thousand years ago,
two young lovers were betrayed-Alger Waterlow to his death, and Hanalea,
Queen of the Fells, to a life without love.
Now, once again, the Queendom of the Fells seems likely to shatter apart. For young queen Raisa ana'Marianna,
maintaining peace even within her own castle walls is nearly
impossible; tension between wizards and Clan has reached a fevered
pitch. With surrounding kingdoms seeking to prey on the Fells' inner
turmoil, Raisa's best hope is to unite her people against a common
enemy. But that enemy might be the person with whom she's falling in
love.
Through a complicated web of lies and unholy alliances,
former streetlord Han Alister has become a member of the Wizard Council
of the Fells. Navigating the cut-throat world of blue blood politics has
never been more dangerous, and Han seems to inspire hostility among
Clan and wizards alike. His only ally is the queen, and despite the
perils involved, Han finds it impossible to ignore his feelings for
Raisa. Before long, Han finds himself in possession of a secret believed
to be lost to history, a discovery powerful enough to unite the people
of the Fells. But will the secret die with him before he can use it?
A
simple, devastating truth concealed by a thousand-year-old lie at last
comes to light in this stunning conclusion to the Seven Realms series.
Oh wow. Wow.
Those words are a pretty accurate example on how I felt about this book. I loved the previous books in the series but definitely no where as much as I loved this book. That's a first for me I think. I guess the only complaint is that... where was this sort of atmosphere in the previous three books?
Alright, so Raisa is finally queen... and her life still refuses to slow down. Despite her determination to make her kingdom better than before, it seems like there's plenty of forces that are more than happy to drag her down even further - including a conflict that resides inside her own castle. Meanwhile, Han finally made it on the Wizard Council as a spokesperson for the Queen herself. Despite the Queen choosing him herself, the danger still lurks as the Bayers try their best to destroy him. It certainly helps that there are now new crimes linked to Han - and due to his past, there's no doubt in anyone's mind: once a streetlord, always a street lord.
There's no one to trust and the kingdom is slowly falling apart. Can Han and Raisa manage to restore peace without starting a full out war?
There are many things stacked against the both of them. You would think that Raisa would be protected from death threats but even the Bayer family wants to take the throne back and rule rather than just being a part of the Wizard Council. Micah still struggles to become Raisa's husband and king. The alternative, however, is Fiona Bayer to become Queen... and that's certainly the bloodier option. Han is seen only as trouble and the only way to resolve of him is to kill him.
On top of that, you'll finally get to learn much more about the story of Hanalea and Alger Waterlow - and it's not like the ones Han read through the history books. There's magic, politics, romance, and mystery... and it is wonderful.
To truly take in what's going on in this book, you should really read it. Sometimes it's just better to let the actual writing to talk for itself... in a metaphorical sense. If you've been on the fence about reading this... I'd do it.
Speaking of... there's a new book coming out that I've heard, is set a little bit after The Crimson Crown. I think it's twenty years in the future. There was an earlier date - about Fall 2015 - but now its anticipated release date is March 2016.
A burning vengeance
Adrian
sul'Han, known as Ash, is a trained healer with a powerful gift of
magic—and a thirst for revenge. The son of the queen of the Fells, Ash
is forced into hiding after a series of murders throws the queendom into
chaos. Now Ash is closer than he's ever been to killing the man
responsible, the cruel king of Arden. As a healer, can Ash use his
powers not to save a life, but to take it?
A blood-based curse
Abandoned
at birth, Jenna Bandelow was told the mysterious magemark on the back
of her neck would one day make her a target. But when the King's Guard
launches a relentless search for a girl with a mark like hers, Jenna
assumes that it has more to do with her role as a saboteur than any
curse. Though Jenna doesn't know why she's being hunted, she knows that
she can't get caught.
Destiny's fiery hand
Thrown together
by chance and joined by their hatred of the ruthless king, Ash and
Jenna will come to rescue each other in ways they cannot yet imagine.
Sounds like your thing? Add it on Goodreads right now and keep a watch on when it'll be released. I'm certainly excited for it!
